Quartz Worktop Maintenance Checklist: Daily, Weekly and Yearly

Quartz needs very little maintenance: a daily wipe with warm soapy water, prompt attention to spills, and a yearly check of seams and sink sealant is genuinely all that’s required. Below is a simple checklist broken down by how often each task needs doing; for the full how-to on cleaning and stain removal, see our care and maintenance guide.

Daily

  • Wipe down with warm water and a soft cloth or sponge after use.
  • Clean up spills, especially wine, coffee, tea and oil, reasonably promptly, though quartz’s non-porous surface means there’s no need to panic.
  • Use a chopping board rather than cutting directly on the surface.
  • Use a trivet under hot pans, dishes and appliances such as slow cookers.

Weekly

  • Give the worktop a proper clean with a mild washing-up liquid or a pH-neutral surface cleaner, rather than just a quick wipe.
  • Check around the sink and hob cutout for any residue build-up in the seam or sealant line.
  • Dry the surface after cleaning to avoid limescale spots building up around taps, in hard water areas.

Monthly

  • Look closely at any seams for early signs of separation or discolouration.
  • Check the sealant around the sink and any upstands for wear, especially in wet areas.
  • If you’ve had any spills of stronger substances (nail polish, ink, dye), confirm they’ve fully lifted using the stain-removal steps in our care and maintenance guide.

Once a year

  • Inspect seams, sink cutouts and any upstands more thoroughly for wear that might need a fabricator’s attention.
  • Check that sealant around sinks, hobs and upstands hasn’t degraded, and have it renewed if it has.
  • Review how the surface is holding up in high-use zones (around the hob, sink and any regular chopping spot) and adjust habits if you’re noticing wear.
  • Re-read your warranty terms if you haven’t looked at them since installation, so you know what’s covered if an issue does appear.

What NOT to do, at any frequency

  • Don’t use bleach, oven cleaner, paint stripper or other harsh, high-pH or solvent-based products.
  • Don’t use abrasive scouring pads or powders.
  • Don’t place very hot cookware directly on the surface.
  • Don’t cut directly on the worktop.

Frequently asked questions

Does quartz need sealing like granite or marble?
No, quartz is non-porous and never needs sealing. That’s one of the main reasons its maintenance checklist is so short compared with natural stone.

What’s the single most important habit for looking after a quartz worktop?
Using a trivet for hot cookware. Heat and thermal shock are one of the few things that can cause lasting damage to an otherwise very low-maintenance surface.

What should I do if I notice a seam starting to look different?
Contact your fabricator promptly: seam issues are much easier to address early than after they’ve progressed. See our guide to seams and joins.
