A quartz worktop warranty is most commonly voided by unsupported overhangs, installation by a non-approved fabricator, heat or thermal shock damage, harsh chemical cleaners, and impact damage from misuse. Our own 15-year warranty sets out the full terms, but most claims we see fall into one of five avoidable categories below.
Installation mistakes that void cover
Warranty cover generally depends on the worktop being templated, cut and fitted by a competent, experienced fabricator, not because of brand loyalty, but because most warranty claims that get rejected trace back to how the slab was installed rather than a manufacturing fault. The most frequent installation-related issues are:
- Unsupported overhangs: a breakfast bar or island overhang beyond roughly 300mm needs corbels or brackets underneath. Without them, the slab can crack under normal weight and this is not a manufacturing defect.
- Poor sink and hob cutouts: cutouts without reinforcement strips or with sharp internal corners (rather than a radius) are a common source of stress cracks that develop weeks or months after fitting.
- Incorrect seam work: seams that aren’t correctly aligned, pinned and adhered can fail over time.
- DIY installation: fitting a quartz worktop yourself, without the tools and experience a fabricator has, is one of the fastest ways to invalidate cover.
Everyday-use mistakes that void cover
Once installed, a handful of everyday habits can also affect your cover:
- Extreme heat and thermal shock: placing very hot pans directly on the surface, especially straight from an oven or hob, can cause damage that isn’t covered. See our guide to quartz and heat resistance.

- Impact damage: dropping heavy or cast-iron cookware directly onto an edge or corner is a leading cause of chips, which aren’t a manufacturing issue.
- Ignoring basic care: warranty terms generally expect you to follow reasonable care guidance; long-term neglect of obvious issues can affect a claim.
Where the worktop is installed matters too
Our warranty covers residential kitchen and bathroom use. It doesn’t extend to commercial installations, outdoor or UV-exposed settings, or use as a flooring material, all of which put different stresses on the material than it’s designed for. How to keep your warranty valid
- Use an experienced, competent fabricator for templating and installation.
- Make sure overhangs beyond ~300mm are properly supported.
- Always use a trivet or mat under hot cookware.
- Stick to warm soapy water and pH-neutral cleaners for everyday use.
- Keep your proof of purchase and report any suspected defect promptly.

No: like most worktop materials, our warranty covers manufacturing defects, not accidental impact, heat or chemical damage from everyday use.
Can I install a quartz worktop myself and still be covered?
We strongly recommend using an experienced fabricator. Installation-related issues, including those from DIY fitting, are one of the most common reasons a claim doesn’t qualify.
